Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Fair Tips ("the App") handles your information. In this policy, "we," "us," and "our" refer to the developer of the App. Fair Tips is a tip calculator that helps you tip on the pre-tax amount by determining your local sales tax rate. We designed the App to work with as little personal data as possible.

1. Information We Collect

Fair Tips does not require you to create an account, and we do not ask for your name or email except when you choose to contact us for support. Depending on how you use the App, the following information may be involved:

  • Location. If you grant permission, the App uses your device's location to determine which local sales tax rate applies. The sales tax rates are stored on your device, and the lookup happens entirely on your device — your location is not stored on our servers or transmitted to us for this purpose. You can also skip location access entirely and type a zip code instead.
  • Bill amounts and tip calculations. The figures you enter (such as the bill total and tip percentage) are processed on your device to produce your tip breakdown. We do not collect or store the amounts you enter.
  • Usage and diagnostic data. We collect anonymized analytics and crash information to understand how the App is used and to fix problems (see Section 5, "Third-Party Services").
  • Device information and advertising identifiers. Our advertising partner may collect device information and advertising identifiers to serve and measure ads (see Section 5).
  • Communications. If you email us for support, we receive the contents of your message and your email address.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information described above to:

  • Determine your local sales tax rate so tips can be calculated on the pre-tax amount
  • Provide, maintain, and improve the App's features
  • Understand usage trends and diagnose crashes and errors
  • Serve and measure the performance of ads within the App
  • Manage subscription entitlements through the Apple App Store
  • Respond to your support requests and communications

3. Location Data

Location is used only in the moment to look up the combined state, county, and city sales tax rate for where you are. Because the rate data ships inside the App, this lookup is performed on your device and your precise location is not sent to us or stored on our servers.

You control location access through your device's system settings and can revoke it at any time; the App will continue to work if you enter a zip code manually instead. Please note that our advertising partner (see Section 5) may independently collect approximate, coarse location for ad targeting and measurement under its own privacy policy.

4. Sharing of Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited information with:

  • Advertising and analytics partners, who may receive device and advertising identifiers and diagnostic data to serve and measure ads and to help us improve the App (see Section 5)
  • Apple, which processes any in-app purchases and subscriptions
  • Service providers who assist in operating our website and the App
  • Law enforcement or other parties when required by applicable law

5. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services, which may collect information as described in their own privacy policies:

  • Google AdMob — used to display ads and may collect advertising identifiers (such as IDFA), device information, and approximate location for ad targeting and measurement.
  • Google Firebase Analytics — used to understand app usage and improve the App. Firebase Privacy Policy
  • Google Firebase Crashlytics — used to collect crash reports and diagnostic information so we can fix problems.
  • Apple App Store — processes purchases and subscriptions in accordance with Apple's terms and privacy policy.

6. Data Retention

We retain analytics and diagnostic data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law. Because the App does not store your location, bill amounts, or account information on our servers, there is no personal profile for us to retain or delete.

7. Security

We take reasonable measures to help protect information handled by the App from loss, theft, misuse, unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information associated with you. You can manage location and tracking permissions at any time in your device settings. To exercise any other rights, please contact us at the address below.

9. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can address it.

10. Cookies and Mobile Identifiers

We and our third-party partners may use SDKs and similar technologies (including mobile advertising identifiers) to operate the App and to serve and measure ads. You can manage app tracking permissions in your device settings.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "last updated" date.
